Yeaaaa man the Wanaka girls did it again
myself, Jo Williams, Ailsa Rollinson and Floortje Draisma
we won the womens section and came 3rd over all, for being 8 min late, we had to give up a check point but still managed to come 3rd !!!
That was an amazing effort from all of us,
it was a kind of a tough course, I have to say it really kept us working sort of hardso that we didn’t get lost or had a break ha ha … but the weather conditions where just beautiful for us.
We were really lucky !!!

We started Sat morning at 6am with a run down to the yacht club, jumped into the kayaks and kayaked up to the top of lake Dunstan, out of the kayak and straight into our first big long adventure up and in the hills towards the Pissa range and Snow farm.
They estimated the times between 10 to 14 hr we could be up there, that’s half the time of the whole race ehhh ….
anyway we where quite aware that we needed lots of food and wow I cant remember that I have ever eaten so much in a race but to be honest I eat it all – crazy !!!

A Storm passed through on our way back to Cromwell around 7 or 8 pm. It got quit a bit choppy in the lake and the wind made everything a bit harder but never mind.
It was already dark when we hit the bike track in Cromwell yeaaa night ridding, it’s quite different to riding your bike at day time. it was pitch black and bloody windy again.
Finally we finished just 8 min past 6 am Sunday morning wohowww what a 24hr race,
because we where 8 min late we had to give up a check point ahaaahaahahha crazy isn’t it ….
So we still came 3rd over all and won the womens again !!!
I’m really happy and proud of our girls team, each individual did an amazing effort to through the whole 24hr race.

Ohhhhh and a big thank you to my amazing sponsor Wanaka Organics, they have given me and the girls heaps of yummy eggs. That was awesome because we backed shit loads for the 24hr race and guess what ?!?!
seriously we managed to eat it alllll yeaaaaa !!!
Also a big thank you to Racers Edge, they sorted our bikes out in short notice once again he he he …

Another thanks goes to Bill Godsall for single handedly organising the 24hr race, He is aaaaaeeee Legend!!!
and finely Kevin from Body workshop who straightened us out post race and keeps us going strong!

I really enjoy and love my training again after having some major trouble with my health by the end of winter,
now I’m back to refocus for Challenge Wanaka 2012 not long to go the next 5 weeks they are going to be exciting.

Talk to you soon
cheers Simone
